Jesse Gourevitch’s research examines the economic impacts of climate change on households and communities across the United States, and in turn, how property owners, private companies, and public institutions are responding to these growing risks. Underlying this work is a broad interest in how environmental impacts are distributed among demographic and socioeconomic groups. Prior to joining the Environmental Defense Fund, Jesse worked at the Wharton Risk Center at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of California, Davis. There, his research focused on how US housing markets are responding to increasing flood risk under climate change and the effectiveness of federal programs designed to reduce flood damages. Jesse earned his Ph.D. in Natural Resources from the University of Vermont in 2021 and his B.A. in environmental studies from Carleton College in 2014.
