Santiago Sandoval

Secretary of Environment, Quito Municipality

Secretary of Environment of the Municipality of Quito since May 2023. He holds a degree in environmental engineering from SEK International University and a master's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Environmental, Economic and Social Sustainability, specialising in ecological economics, from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He was manager of the Project for the integral implementation of districts and administrative planning circuits of Buen Vivir in Senplades.

Session Description: In Quito, rough estimates foresee an increase in droughts and heavy rainfall, combined with the accelerated growth of the city, much of it informal, over a topography and soil characteristics that will make morphoclimatic events such as alluvium, mass movements, and floods more frequent and above all affect the growing population more severely, especially the most socio-economically vulnerable strata settled in informal neighbourhoods.
