Senior Advisor, Biodiversity and Finance, AFD
Odile Conchou is Senior Advisor on finance and biodiversity at the French Agency of Development (AFD) and TNFD Development Finance Network Lead. She previously was Financial Sector Lead at the Secretariat of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity. Previously, she held various positions in the AFD Group (notably Head of the ESG and Impact Department of Proparco, AFD’s private sector arm) and in public and private organizations. She holds a PhD in Ecology from the French National Center of Scientific Research.
Session Description: Adequate and sustainable financing, including gender-responsive policies, plays a pivotal role in ensuring the protection of biodiversity, the preservation of ecosystems, and the promotion of sustainable development. This topic explores various financing mechanisms, policy frameworks, and public-private partnerships that can mobilize resources and enable effective financial support for biodiversity conservation and the implementation of nature-based solutions. Session Description: This session will directly address the conference theme by discussing the links between biodiversity and sustainable development policies, through the presentation of research initiatives, experiences, and tools. It will address the following sub-themes: Alternative, nature-based solutions (NBS) for sustainability challenges (including perspective from indigenous people) Mainstreaming biodiversity and scaling up mainstreaming Context There is an urgent need to implement transformative changes in the sectors of activity that cause the degradation of nature, in addition to protect ecosystems and endangered species.
